bensen u turn club chair
Design Niels Bendtsen, 2013
Molded foam, steel frame, metal base
Made in Italy by Bensen
U Turn is a modern evolution of the familiar club chair archetype. Its sophisticated form allows it be used in a wide variety of aesthetic environments from traditional to the most modern, and is suitable for contract use.
Its most distinctive visual element is the seat under-cut which provides foot space for greater ease when getting out of the chair. The generously scaled seat, back support, and luxurious seat cushion achieve superb comfort while occupying a surprisingly small footprint.
U Turn sits upon a discrete circular metal base that rotates smoothly through 360°. An internal steel frame and injection molded foam create engineered comfort and a tailored appearance.
29.5" w | 31.5" d | 27.25" h | seat: 15" h | 21.5" d

Niels Bendtsen
Bendtsen gained valuable skills and a respect for hand-built traditions as an apprentice, and was intrigued by new technologies. Between 1963 and 1972, Bendtsen had his own retail store where he sold imported Scandinavian designs. He designed small items for the store, but it wasn't until he was in his early thirties that he truly began designing furniture.
The Bensen philosophy balances simplicity and honesty. Designer Niels Bendtsen trained as an apprentice with his father building Scandinavian furniture and gained skills & respect for hand built traditions.
