lily stackable side chair
by Arne Jacobsen, from Fritz Hansen
lily stackable side chair
Design Arne Jacobsen, 1970
Steel, laminated wood
Made by Fritz Hansen
Arne Jacobsen's chair model 3108 was originally designed for the Danish central bank. It is also referred to as the "Lily" and was first introduced at the Danish furniture fair in 1970. The chair is a result of an extremely complicated process that ensures the perfect curves and hence best comfort.
Arne Jacobsen was very productive both as an architect and as a designer. His cooperation with Fritz Hansen dates back to 1934. The Ant and Series 7 chairs, produced in 1952, propelled both Jacobsen and Fritz Hansen's names into furniture history. At the end of the 50's Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, which introduced the Egg, the Swan, the Swan sofa and Series 3300 to the design world. Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. His furniture and other design work have become a national and international heritage.
Lily Stackable side chair is available in two versions: with or without arms. Both versions come in a natural walnut veneer or fully upholstered in a wide range of fabrics and leathers. The shell is made of pressure molded sliced veneer and the base comes with 4 legs made of chromed steel tubes.

Arne Jacobsen
Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen is remembered for his contribution to architectural functionalism and the worldwide success he enjoyed with chair designs. Jacobsen was admitted to the Architecture School at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts where he studied under leading architects and designers. After completing architecture school he worked at Poul Holsoe's architectural practice. In 1929 he won a Danish Architect's Association competition for designing the "House of the Future" and Jacobsen was recognized as an ultra-modern architect. The Egg, Swan and Series 7 chairs produced in collaboration with Fritz Hansen propelled both names into design fame.
Fritz Hansen has become a natural part of Danish and International design history. Fritz Hansen is characterized by craftsmanship, unique design and a sense of premium quality. Furniture designers such as Arne Jacobsen & Poul Kjaerholm have contributed to the collection with beautifully shaped designs and the use of innovative techniques and new materials.
