Blu Dot was formed in 1997 when John Christakos, Maurice Blanks, and Charlie Lazor commiserated about the lack of high-quality, affordable home furnishings that also appealed to their modernist aesthetics. They began as college friends trying to fill a void in the marketplace and have endured with highly-original furniture and products that join whimsy with practicality. The company thrives on collaboration and prides itself on having full control, taking care of each step in-house, from design, to manufacturing, to retail. Blu Dot is based in Minneapolis, and has flagship stores in LA and SoHo New York that display over 100 items from the collection.

Not worth the money
Roberto, more than a month ago.
The construction is pretty flimsy. The top rail across the headboard and the bottom foot rails are really flimsy and too thin for their length. They seem likely to break. The assembly is pretty straightforward but the knockdown bolts are a pain to work with the junky wrench and they are set up in a way that makes it very difficult to tighten them properly.
The size of the bed is wonky. We bought the king size and put our old king size mattress on it - there is 3" of slat showing on each side and we had to force the mattress in between the headboard and footboard, so it's REALLY tight on the length, which means it is difficult to make the bed and there's all this ugly space on the sides where frame is wider than a standard king. We had this mattress on a king frame from another manufacturer with no fit issues and it measures out at standard king size mattress, so I don't know if Blu-Dot got it wrong on our bed or what.
