tizio with floor support

Design Richard Sapper, 2009
Steel, zinc alloy or thermoplastic, aluminum
Made in Italy by Artemide

The Tizio series of lamps have fully adjustable counterbalanced arms and head in painted aluminum. The floor lamps are available in different sizes. The innovation of Tizio is its construction; arm spacer bars in chromed steel, counterweights in zinc alloy, anodized aluminum diffuser and a 12V transformer in the lamp base powers a halogen lamp through rods and buttons. Besides having a structural function, the rods carry electrical current without electric cables. Each lamp features direct adjustable light emission with two light levels. Includes bulb & available in black only.

Richard Sapper was born in Munich, Germany and also studied at the University of Munich. His main interests have always been the design of technically complex objects. His designs have won many awards, among them he has won the Compasso d'oro ten times. Many of his designs are in the permanent design collection of the Moma, his work has been shown around the world and he has lectured in numerous Universities all over the world.

Richard Sapper

Richard Sapper, born in Munich, designs products featuring a combination of technical innovation, simplicity of form, and an element of wit and surprise. He has received numerous international design awards, including 10 prestigious Compasso d'Oro awards and the Raymond Loewy Foundation's Lucky Strike award. His products are part of the permanent collections of many museums around the world, with over 15 represented at New York's MoMA, as well as London's Victoria and Albert and Design Museums. Upon starting his own independent studio in 1959, Sapper designed the Tizio lamp for Artemide, one of the best selling lamps ever produced. In 1978 Alessi commissioned Sapper with the first product in a long series to come, the stove-top espresso maker 9090.
Artemide Lighting
The Artemide light has never been solely a function of seeing, or an opportunity for formal experimentation with lamps as objects. For more than forty years, Artemide has aimed to propose light as a companion to people, as a source of physical pleasure and mental comfort. Artemide has done so, with different work groups, searching through the whole design process, starting with a declaration of values - The human light. Beyond the definition, the human light is intelligent light. A light that knows it has to relate to people, accompanying them in their daily activities.
