platebowlcup oval serving plate
by Jasper Morrison, from Alessi
platebowlcup oval serving plate
Design Jasper Morrison, 2007
White porcelain
Made by Alessi
Jasper Morrison has always been admired for his coherence and modesty that he applies to his role as a designer. Today Jasper is one of the most respected designers on the international scene. "PlateBowlCup" bone china tableware and "Glass Family" glasses take their place alongside the "KnifeForkSpoon" cutlery (2005), thus forming the first complete Alessi tableware.
It is true that the price of these household objects is highly accessible, but this has not compromised the quality of design. Also, Jasper Morrison's quest for anti-glamour "normality" paradoxically gives his designs an air of sophisticated simplicity, which is a good description of one of the ambitions of the "A di Alessi" brand.
Born in London, Jasper Morrison studied design at the Royal College of Art and at the HdK in Berlin. Editor of the Design Year Book in 1999 with a passion for the history of design, Morrison designs for Cappellini, Vitra, Magis, Flos, Rosenthal and Sony.

Jasper Morrison
Jasper Morrison (b. 1959) is an English product and furniture designer from London. He received a Bachelor of Design degree from Kingston Polytechnic Design School in 1982 and a Masters degree in Design from the Royal College of Art, London, in 1985. He also studied at the Berlin University of the Arts, formerly the Hochschule der Künste (HdK). While a student, he gained a keen interest in modernist pioneers, such as Buckminster Fuller, Gerald Summers, Jean Prouvé and Le Corbusier. Morrison's objects provide a quiet contrast to the creative exuberance of the Eighties. The visual restraint, high functionalism and constructive simplicity attract attention to his work.
Alessi was founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi to produce crafted metal products for eating and drinking. In 1935, Carlo Alessi, son of Giovanni, was named chief designer. In 1945, he ascended to chief executive and designed the coffee service Bombe, an industrial piece manufactured in four sizes. That same year Carlo's younger brother, Ettore Alessi, joined the company as a technician. By the 1980s, Alberto Alessi took over the management of Alessi and launched the Alessi company into the design decade through collaborations with designers such as Philippe Starck and his playful three-legged Juicy Salif citrus squeezer.
