tizio table lamp

Design Richard Sapper, 1972
Steel, zinc alloy or thermoplastic
Made in Italy by Artemide

The Tizio series of lamps have fully adjustable counterbalanced arms and head in painted aluminum. The table/task lamps are available in different sizes. The innovation of Tizio is its construction; arm spacer bars in chromed steel, counterweights in zinc alloy, anodized aluminum diffuser and a 12V transformer in the lamp base powers a halogen lamp through rods and buttons. Besides having a structural function, the rods carry electrical current without electric cables. Each lamp features direct adjustable light emission with two light levels.

Richard Sapper was born in Munich, Germany and also studied at the University of Munich. His main interests have always been the design of technically complex objects. His designs have won many awards, among them he has won the Compasso d'oro ten times. Many of his designs are in the permanent design collection of the Moma, his work has been shown around the world and he has lectured in numerous Universities all over the world.

Artemide Lighting
The Artemide light has never been solely a function of seeing, or an opportunity for formal experimentation with lamps as objects. For more than forty years, Artemide has aimed to propose light as a companion to people, as a source of physical pleasure and mental comfort. Artemide has done so, with different work groups, searching through the whole design process, starting with a declaration of values - The human light. Beyond the definition, the human light is intelligent light. A light that knows it has to relate to people, accompanying them in their daily activities.

Exceptional Lamp
Lane, more than a month ago.
Having seen this lamp in our design center at work I was always a fan so when I learned there were various sizes I had to bite (I got the micro). Very happy with my purchase as the lamp is not only a timeless design it is well built and functions as intended. The arms move with minimal force, hold their position, and don't sag a bit. I swapped out the bulb for an LED with no issues. The switch is nice a crisp with a medium/heavy feel to it. Overall, very happy.

exceptional quality
AshevilleB, more than a month ago.
the head of the lamp can be placed almost anywhere including below the base of the lamp. so for work or reading you can get it right where you need it. it has a high and low light setting and i usually use the low setting. in addition to a work light it works well as room light because you can adjust the head to give the room just the ambiance you want. the quality of the construction and engineering is what really shines though. i once tripped over the cord and sent the whole thing to the ground. imagining the worst i carefully picked up the pieces and assessed the damage. turns out it all snaps back together! i was blown away and my lamp was fine. that’s a great example craftsmanship.
