Chair One 502
from De La Espada
chair one 502
Design Manuel Aires Mateus, 2025
Solid ash, oak, or walnut
Made in Portugal by De La Espada
Chair One is a pared back solid wood chair with an extreme visual levity.
"We started from a stress diagram, a little like Jean Prouvé and the design of his furniture. An idea of designing at the limit where comfort appears as a surprise," explains Manuel. The chair reflects Manuel's approach to architecture: honest materiality, bold yet timeless, innovative yet connected to the past, and an interplay of volume and void.
Crafted at the solar-powered De La Espada factory in Portugal. Designed by a creative partner and rigorously engineered with the support of our in-house product development team and expert craftspeople. Durability, comfort and aesthetics combine for a product that lasts a lifetime. Timber is sustainable solid wood from North America or Europe, offering long-term repairability of the surface. Natural color and grain variations in every plank make each piece an individual. Traditional wood joinery bonded with wood glue ensures structural integrity. All finishes are non-toxic and applied by hand, sprayed or rubbed.
