Pliny the Lounger

pliny the lounger
Design Sielaff Corporation & Loll Designs
Recycled high-density polyethylene, tubular stainless steel
Made in the USA by Loll Designs
Inspired by the ubiquitous 'motel' chair from the 1940's and further the Bauhaus era of Modernist cantilevered and tubular steel chairs. This is what Marcel Breuer and Mies van der Rohe would have spent patio time in. Pliny the Lounger is a timely update on this classic chair.
Pliny was designed and manufactured by Loll Designs with Sielaff Corporation using sustainable materials. Made in the USA, this outdoor lounge chair features an elegantly mandrel-bent 1-inch tubular stainless steel frame with a seat and back made from partially recycled plastic. The chair's welded tube frame has no open ends and is a one-piece construction that will last a lifetime. The Pliny has that classic 'bounce' feel that brings the seated back to a moment in their familiar past, but the patio chairs' new roots are clearly in the present.
Loll products are made with recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) primarily from milk jugs. Milk jugs are used due to their lack of pigment so Loll's vibrant colors can be created. As Loll material is a post-consumer recycled material, the medium to create the material does inevitably fluctuate. Material color and texture may slightly vary from sheet to sheet and thus product to product may have slight variances. USA made aluminum inserts mated with a 304 grade stainless steel bolt in all joinery. All materials are chosen for their high quality, no maintenance, performance and longevity.
The Pliny is the recipient of a Good Design Award as awarded by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. Ships fully assembled.
