model 57 sofa
Design Finn Juhl, 1957
Solid oak or walnut toes, steel legs, fabric or leather upholstery
Made in Denmark by House of Finn Juhl
Designed by Finn Juhl in 1957, the 57 Sofa was the first of his designs to be relaunched by the House of Finn Juhl. The sofa's sculptural silhouette is defined by smooth, clean lines, and the tall armrests curve around the seat, creating a cosy and comfortable area. This unique design is truly timeless. The 57 Sofa is manufactured with hand-sewn upholstery in either textile or leather, and the seat is spring-filled. The legs are available in either burnished or stainless steel, and they feature wooden toes in walnut or oak.
Finn Juhl's widow, the music and theatre publisher Hanne Wilhelm Hansen, wanted this sofa to be part of an exhibition marking the 10th anniversary of Finn Juhl's passing. Therefore, she contacted us and commissioned a single issue of the sofa based on his drawings. This became the very beginning of an amazing partnership with Hanne Wilhelm Hansen, who subsequently handed us the exclusive rights to manufacture Finn Juhl's furniture.
The 57 Sofa was exhibited for the very first time in the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen during 1957 and more than 40 years were to pass by before the world found favor with Finn Juhl's extravagant design. The sculptural silhouette of the 57 Sofa is defined by smooth, clean lines, forming an inviting and spacious seating space. With tall armrests embracing the seat thus creating a nestled area of comfort, the 57 Sofa is truly a unique and playful design.
The 57 Sofa is upholstered in either a single fabric/leather or in a split-upholstery with a contrasting color or textile. Preselected split-upholstery options are available to order online, please contact Hive for custom configurations.
