Colorado Rug
by Inga Sempé from Nanimarquina
colorado rug
Design Inga Sempé, 2024
100% hand-knotted & hand-loomed Afghan wool
Handmade by Nanimarquina
A collection of ethnic-style rugs, where tradition and modernity merge in an elegant combination of textures and ancestral techniques. Each piece offers a unique play of textures in two heights, created with careful combinations of fibers and yarns in a variety of shades.
Colorado transcends the boundaries of weaving by combining the traditional with the contemporary, using ancient techniques such as chobi (handknotted) and kilim (flatweave). The use of chobi gives these rugs an unparalleled visual richness to the piece, which is revealed by changes in light and movement. This inherent characteristic of the hand-spun wool together with the chobi technique lies in the interplay created by its weaving technique: the orientation of the fiber when tying the knot, its length, and the density of knots.
Colorado marks the first collaborative collection between nanimarquina and Inga Sempé. A collection that harmoniously blends tradition and modernity. Inga Sempé is a French artist whose works are characterized by functionality, quality, and simplicity with a touch of oddness, as she values being outside trends. For her, it is essential to create designs that serve their intended purpose and invoke an emotional response. She believes that design should always prioritize the user's needs and feelings, rather than just aesthetic appeal or technical proficiency, which means creating designs that are easy to use, comfortable, and emotionally resonant. This is reflected in their clean lines, minimal shapes, and adorned surfaces. She has collaborated with French, Scandinavian and Italian companies throughout her professional career, such as Edra, Cappellini, Hay, Ligne Roset, LucePlan, Mutina, Wästberg, Alessi and Magis.
Each Colorado rug is handwoven with meticulous attention to detail. The combination of these techniques creates a play of textures in two distinct heights, adding depth and complexity achieved by using different shade fibers and yarns. The Colorado Collection is Climate Neutral certified.
