Design Jaime Hayon, 2015
Ivory rice paper, black-stained oak
Made by &Tradition
East meets West in Jaime Hayon's playful tweak of a traditional Asian lantern in contemporary expression. Dating back centuries, paper lanterns have featured in Asia amongst the privileged and the poor, where different colors, shapes and sizes connote different meanings. Here Hayon has dispensed with cultural formalities to create a series of lamps all in white. Hand crafted with rice paper merging various sizes and shapes together. The series is comprised of three different lantern versions and a table lamp in ivory white rice paper with black stained oak accents.
A Spanish artist and designer who set up his own studio in 2000, Jamie Hayon has designed countless pieces of furniture, lighting fixtures and home accessories, hotel interiors, retail shops, a line of ceramics, shoes and his own collection of timepieces. With designs showcased in prominent museums around the world, Hayon is at the forefront of a new wave of talents blurring the lines between art, decoration and design. Hayon, now operating offices in Italy, Spain and Japan, is keen on exploring new and expressive forms, while maintaining a deep respect for artisan skills, finely-crafted details and a passion for play.
