skagerak cutter bench
from Fritz Hansen
skagerak cutter bench
Design Niels Hvass, 1999
FSC™ certified teak or oak
Skagerak by Fritz Hansen
The Cutter Bench was originally designed for the "Planken ud" exhibition. Here, inspired by the German Bauhaus movement, the idea of a slatted seat on a coherent frame came into life. The minimalist design is effortless in its expression and does well in most indoor settings. The teak version is safe for outdoor use.
Niels Hvass creates clear, precise expressions that place the user center stage. His designs are based on a deep-felt wish that one must be entranced and fall in love. Niels Hvass is an idealist with sincerity as a key value. He was born in Nykøbing Mors, Denmark, in 1958 and qualified as a furniture designer from the Danish School of Design in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1987. Together with Christina Strand, he has run the design studio Strand + Hvass since 1991. But his impressive career also includes teaching at the Danish School of Design, membership of the grants committee and board of the Danish Arts Foundation, exhibitions at the Cabinetmakers' Autumn Exhibition, etc.
Oak is a sturdy and hardwearing type of wood containing natural tannins that will protect against bacterial growth. The Skagerak oak comes from European forests and is either 100% FSC™-certified or FSC™ mix-certified, supporting sustainable forest management.
Teak is a heavy, hard and sturdy type of wood. The high content of natural oils makes it highly resistant, perfect for functional everyday items in your home such as household articles and furniture. Skagerak FSC™-certified Teak comes from Brazil, Panama, Costa Rica and Indonesia. As the wood is untreated the surface will patina and change color over time into a beautiful silvery grey. To maintain untreated wood, it is a good idea to use sandpaper (grit 120-150) once or twice a year.
