Design Børge Mogensen, 1961
FSC™-certified eucalyptus
Made in Denmark by Carl Hansen & Son
Shaped from solid, dark-oiled FSC™-certified eucalyptus, the Asserbo Backless Bench exudes a simple stringency that alludes to the Shaker style. Designed in 1961 by Børge Mogensen to meet his own furniture needs, its gently rounded shape is punctuated with brushed brass screws. A piece with high utility value, the table is ideal for private and holiday homes, but also for restaurants and public spaces as a gathering point for meetings, meals and conversations.
Created in 1961 for his private holiday home and originally produced in pine, Børge Mogensen's Asserbo series is now reissued in solid, dark-oiled FSC™-certified eucalyptus, sourced from sustainable forestry and renowned for its understated beauty and high durability. Radiating visual calm and simple functionalism, the series' bench and chair look to the Shaker style for their design cues. Stripped to their essence, they allow the materials speak for themselves. Gently rounded wooden lines are defined by visible brushed brass screws on design furniture of high utility value. With its informal expression, high-quality craft and visual clarity, the flexible Asserbo Series is ideal as a dining set or used standalone. The bench is offered with either a fixed or wall-mounted backrest, as well as a loose textile cushion for extra comfort.
Børge Mogensen's creative process produced long-lasting pieces with humans at the center. He became a highly-influential, post-war designer and a leading representative of Danish Modern. Mogensen's democratic design included simple and functional wooden furniture for both private and public spaces, with calm aesthetics and strong construction from quality. He believed in visual clarity and minimal decoration or experimentation.
