newood chair with upholstered seat
from Cappellini
newood chair with upholstered seat
Design BroglioTraverso, 2020
Ash veneered beech plywood, black nylon feet, upholstery
Made in Italy by Cappellini
The result of a contemporary re-interpretation of the timeless charm of Windsor-style chairs. Designed by the creative duo, Alberto Brogliato and Federico Traverso, Newood chairs express the successful harmony between technologically advanced craftsmanship and manufacturing excellence. An encounter between past and present, attained through the extraordinary study of details, in particular the distinctive back rest in solid curved wood which provides a pleasant tactile element: the genuine and reassuring beauty of wood.
Newood chairs are a homage to pure design, as demonstrated by the fact that it is also the first wooden chair in the Cappellini catalogue that is also stackable. Available in a bleached ash, wengé stained, black stained and oak stained finish, Newood chairs are particularly captivating in the Shanghai blue stain. The seat is beech plywood, padded with a fixed cover in a selection of fabrics or leathers of the collection. Chair is stackable maximum 4 chairs or 12 chairs with optional trolley (trolley is equipped with side padding to protect chairs). The chair is equipped with four black nylon spacers beneath the seat.
20.75" w | 30.25" h |19.75" d | seat: 18.25" h
optional trolley: 17" w | 38.25" d | 36.75" h

Born into a family of furniture manufacturers, Giulio Cappellini began working for the family company in 1979, after earning his degree in architecture and studying business management. By the early 1980's, Giulio's leadership brought the Cappellini company into the world market from its three decade run as a handicraft furniture business. Hoping to expand the styles and materials used, Giulio scouted designers, bringing Jasper Morrison, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Marcel Wanders, Marc Newson, and Tom Dixon into the fold. Now, the firm boasts a varied, comprehensive collection rather than a singular style. Still, there are common threads: refined simplicity, dynamism, liveliness, humor.
