lud'o lounge chair with conical base

Design Patricia Urquiola, 2020
Recycled polyethylene, polyurethane, metal, upholstery
Made in Italy by Cappellini

With innovative lines and an ingenious construction, the cozy Lud'o Lounge chair by Patricia Urquiola is an object of design that can be dressed and re-adorned to make room, in our lives, for the playful side of our nature. A change of clothes, in this armchair, becomes a fundamental concept: with a simple gesture, one can remove the entire padded upholstery that covers the shell and substitute it with a completely new one.

The extreme comfort, perfect for domestic settings, and the scenographic impact it provides contract settings, make the Lud'o Lounge chair a worthy tribute to Vico Magistretti, the celebrated designer's mentor. Equipped with a recycled plastic shell, made with a rotational mold, Lud'o Lounge sits atop a base that is available in several versions: a conical metal swivel base matte varnished in black or with four ash wood spokes (oak stained, wengé stained, or black stained). The quilted upholstery is available in a selection of the fabric and leathers in the collection.

Super soft, eloquent and polyhedral, the Lud'o Lounge is completely recycled and recyclable: in this armchair each element, from the base to the padding, expresses a new way to give materials added value. The conical base is finished in black epoxy powder-coat and swivels. The base has a grey felt bottom.

Patricia Urquiola

Born in Oviedo, Patricia Urquiola attended the Faculty of Architecture of the Technical University of Madrid, where she graduated in 1989 having completed a thesis with Achille Castiglioni. From 1990 to 1992, she was assistant lecturer on his courses. Between 1990 and 1996, she worked with Vico Magistretti for the new product development office of De Padova and signed the products: “Flower,” “Loom sofa,” “Chaise,” and “Chaise Longue.”
Born into a family of furniture manufacturers, Giulio Cappellini began working for the family company in 1979, after earning his degree in architecture and studying business management. By the early 1980's, Guilio's leadership brought the Cappellini company into the world market from its three decade run as a handicraft furniture business. Hoping to expand the styles and materials used, Guilio scouted designers, bringing Jasper Morrison, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Marcel Wanders, Marc Newson, and Tom Dixon into the fold. Now, the firm boasts a varied, comprehensive collection rather than a singular style. Still, there are common threads: refined simplicity, dynamism, liveliness, humor.
