fiber armchair with swivel base
Design Iskos Berlin, 2014
Wood & plastic composition shell, die cast aluminum, textile
Made by Muuto
"One of the most difficult and noble disciplines is to design without eccentricity, creating simple, well-functioning and almost ordinary objects that nevertheless have strong identities. We designed Fiber Armchair to do just that through a clear sculptural language that refuses to compromise on comfort." - Iskos-Berlin
The Fiber Armchair with swivel base is a functional expression to home or workspace. The shell is made from an innovative composite of wood and plastic fibers for a matte surface and soft touch. Pairing an embracing seat with a 4-leg swivel base.
Iskos-Berlin is a Copenhagen-based design duo that has made international headlines within furniture, industrial, and graphic design. The studio, formerly known as Komplot Design, has collaborated with some of the world's most prestigious manufacturers and their furniture, lighting, and other design products, are exhibited at numerous design museums around the world, including MoMA and the Danish Design Museum.
Shell consists of an innovative composition of plastic and up to 25% wood fibers. The wood fiber and plastic blend is injected into the mold, forming the chair's shell. The Fiber Chair family is made partly from a natural material, meaning that variations in color can occur. For upholstered versions, the shell's inside is upholstered with foam and fabric. The fabric is glued to the shell's surfaces and stapled using a pipe on the edges. This ensures a smooth and tight surface of the upholstery. Swivel piece is die cast aluminum. Swivel foot is casted in one piece. This piece has a swivel base without return.
