Design Iskos Berlin, 2014
Wood & plastic composition shell, powder-coated steel
Made by Muuto
"One of the most difficult and noble disciplines is to design without eccentricity, creating simple, well-functioning and almost ordinary objects that nevertheless have strong identities. We designed Fiber Armchair to do just that through a clear sculptural language that refuses to compromise on comfort." - Iskos-Berlin
The Fiber armchair is made from an innovative wood fiber composite with up to 25% wood fibers for a tactile expression and matte touch, joined by a tube base in powder coated steel. The fibers make for a unique texture when viewed up-close yet become invisible to the eye when viewed from afar, paired with an embracing yet minimal shape; perfect for any home setting, workspace, restaurant or educational setting.
Iskos-Berlin is a Copenhagen-based design duo that has made international headlines within furniture, industrial, and graphic design. The studio, formerly known as Komplot Design, has collaborated with some of the world's most prestigious manufacturers and their furniture, lighting, and other design products, are exhibited at numerous design museums around the world, including MoMA and the Danish Design Museum.
The Fiber armchair shell features an innovative composition with plastic and wood fibers. The wood fiber and plastic blend is injected into the mold, forming the chair's shell. The shell's inside can also be upholstered with foam and fabric. The fabric is glued to the shell's surfaces and stapled using a pipe on the edges. This ensures a smooth and tight surface of the textile. Tube base is powder-coated steel.
