sofa eight 788
Design Neri & Hu
American black walnut, American white oak or European ash, upholstery
Made in Portugal by De La Espada
Sofa Eight is a continuation of Neri&Hu's exploration of an expressive tectonic language. The main supporting element of the sofa is a traditional wood joinery assemblage of stacking members in the X, Y, and Z-axes, pinned together to form a structural base. The cushioned seating utilizes memory foam for comfort while maintaining clean, firm lines. Playing with the notion of modularity, variations on the structure allow for add-ons, such as a side table.
De La Espada is a groundbreaking design management firm and leading modern woodworker with a dedicated factory in Portugal. Highly skilled craftspeople combine noble materials, traditional joinery, handcraft and advanced technology to realize each design to the highest standard. De La Espada puts the author at the forefront and values the modern artisan. They partner with designers who art direct, curate and design their own product lines, and support them through manufacture and distribution.
Neri&Hu's own product line, 'neri&hu', represents a different aesthetic that is rooted in cultural provocation. With an intention to question the potential in "Chinese design", neri&hu seeks to alternatives to the normative.
