grashoppa pendant light
by greta grossman, from GUBI
grashoppa pendant light
Design Greta Grossman, 1947
Aluminum, textile cord
Made in Denmark by Gubi
The most iconic products Greta Grossman designed in the 40's and 50's were the Gräshoppa floor lamp and the Cobra floor and table lamps. Grossman was highly influenced by European Modernism, which had been imported to the US by influencial architects, such as Walter Gropius (founder of the Bauhaus) and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Grossman, in turn, played a significant role in defining the aesthetic of mid-century Californian Modernism.
The iconic Gräshoppa lamp was first produced in 1947. The elongated aluminium conical shade allows for directional lighting, yet the glare is minimal. Shade is powder-coated and offered in a variety of colors. The shade interior is white. Textile cord is white on blue-grey & matte white pendant, black for all others. Pendant should be hardwired to a standard electric junction box by a certified electrician.
Today, Grossman's product designs are highly collectible and are sold at auctions all around the world. Grossman's products are unique, modern classic designs.
lamp: 14.6" h | shade: 9" h | 5.9" dia. | canopy: 3.1" dia. | 5.1" L | cord: 78.7" L
requires 1x40W incandescent, 28W halogen or 4-6W LED, E12 socket bulb | 470 lumen
