"It's going to be a whole new experience, and yet the chair is still going to be an Aeron chair."
-Don Chadwick
When Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick designed the Aeron Chair, they combined a deep knowledge of human-centered design with never-before-seen technology to create a chair unlike any other. Now Aeron has been remastered in practically every way to create an office chair that better supports people and the types of work we do today.
Herman Miller recruited co-designer Don Chadwick to reexamine the design criteria in the context of todays work and technology. With stronger, smarter materials, better adjustment capabilities, new finish options, and a healthier, more comfortable sit, they didn't recreate or redesign the Aeron Chair - they remastered it. The new Aeron works smarter than ever before - so you can too.
The Aeron chair features pressure distribution, aeration and natural movement. Across the seat & back, eight latitudinal zones of varying tension deliver increased comfort & support. The 8Z Pellicle fabric allows air, body heat and water vapor to pass through to help maintain even & comfortable skin temperature. An updated tilt mechanism delivers a smoother trajectory and optimal balance point to keep you in control of your movement.
Tilt - standard tilt adjusts tilt tension only. Tilt limiter and seat angle option adjust tilt tension, tilt range (4 settings), and seat angle (horizontal or 5 degrees forward).
Arms - adjustable arms move 4" vertically and from 15 degrees outward to 17.5 degrees inward. Fully adjustable, four dimensional arm option is now available.
Armpads - available with non-upholstered Vinyl or upholstered in Category 9 leather.
Back Support - PostureFit SL™ support provides a custom fit in the sacral & lumbar regions of the spine, helping to achieve healthier posture and improved lower back comfort.
Weight Limits - Aeron in size A is tested and warranted for use by persons 300 pounds and under. Aeron in size B and C are tested and warranted for use by persons 350 pounds and under.
The Aeron chair is composed of more than 50 percent recycled material with added ocean-bound plastic, resulting in more than 150 metric tons of plastic diverted from the ecosystem every year. That translates to 15 million plastic water bottles. Aeron chairs in onyx will include 2.5 pounds of ocean-bound plastic and graphite, carbon and mineral color-ways will include half pound of ocean-bound plastic.

The Aeron is without a doubt the best task chair humans have created so far. Word.
I just purchased a new Aeron chair to put alongside the 20 year old Aeron chair I have in my office.nThe cat came in and decided to sharpen it's claws on it and left visible marks and snags. I expect that Herman Miller will say it's my problem, not theirs. The thing is, there are no marks on the 20 year old Aeron chair, just on the new one, and it's the same cat.
At first I was worried the ol hermie wouldnt live up to my expectations but boy was I wrong. First let me tell you a little about myself, I play league of legends and I eat a lot of meat and I am extremely obese. I'm sure you all know what happens when one eats a large amount of meat; the meat farts. I get some INSANE meat farts, my farts are so noxious and thick you can almost see them. Now in my previous chair, which was one of those racing chairs, my farts would get trapped and I would have to lean uncomfortably to the side. With the Hermie though I can sit straight up with perfect posture and have my farts slip right through the chair like a silk robe sliding off my body.
My first HM and it is perfect. The price here is slightly cheaper than from the miller site or store. You won't pay 875 unless you get no arms or anything else. The chair came earlier than I anticipated (about 3 weeks) and was packaged well. I got mine fully loaded and it's been Excellent so far.
Chair is top notch with no comparable. My second chair to upgrade an older version. Hive is the only place to buy Herman Miller. Top notch self service website. Everything is clearly explained. Custom config chair delivered on promised time with zero issues. Highly recommended!
I definitely not surprised by the Aeron. After all, I've been sitting in one for over a decade at work. But once Covid hit, I had to start working from home, and needed a better desk chair. At first I held off, but as time (and my back) wore on, I decided to finally bite the bullet, and I'm SO glad I did. It was worth the wait and every penny. It's so comfortable and well made. And I love the look of it in the silver and chrome, which is even nicer than the ones I had at work. If you sit for long periods of time at a computer, trust me, this is a game-changer- scratch that, a life-changer.
I had missed my previous two and my back is happy I got this one!
I brought this for my husband as a Christmas gift. It fits great and he loved it! If you plan to purchase it, plan early because it took about a month for me to receive it.
The best office chair I ever have. It looks beautiful and gorgeous.
When COVID hit and work-from-home became the norm, I already missed some things about the office. But it wasn't until about 60 days in that my lower back started aching. I quickly realized that the $200 chair I had in my home office just wouldn't cut it anymore. I mentioned it to my team, and someone sent me the great deal on Herman Miller Aeron chairs on Hive Modern. I'm thrilled I was able to purchase the exact chair we have in our corporate offices for a much lower price. I could tell the difference immediately, and my lower back is on the mend. Spend the money - it's an investment in your health if you have a desk job.
The chair provides a healthy sitting position. But for me it not quite comfortable. I am about 5'6'' and 130 pounds. I chose the size B. But even the lowest height is a little high for me. Also be careful with the armrests. Although I chose the fully adjustable arms, only the front end of the armrest is adjustable in width. It's too wide for me even if I've made them to be narrowest. Maybe a size A is more suitable for me. Please do try it on before purchasing.
Amazing chair!!! I am not accustomed to sitting at the computer all day. So the switch to working virtually was a big shift for me. The Aeron chair has made it possible to sit in front of the computer for longer stretches of time without discomfort. A super well designed chair!
Having spent many years sitting on low quality office chairs, this chair is such an improvement on past experience. I cannot compare this Aeron chair with any other high end chairs in the category. But I have no reason to try any others. This one is so comfortable, it would be difficult to improve on it, from my standpoint. I am 5' 4" and most office chair seats are too deep for my legs. This one allows me to sit fully back in the seat and still have room behind my knees, the lower back support adjusted right where it is needed. My feet are flat on the floor, and my arm rests are fully adjustable to my arms resting at just the right height for typing. With my low weight the Aeron allows me to set the spring on the tilt-back so that I can effortlessly tilt back when I want to, unlike lower quality chairs who's tension adjustment range is too shallow. The mesh seat and back rest allows my body to breathe and not get clammy during stressful calls. I can't find any faults with the Aeron chair, and highly recommend it. It's not cheap but feel it's money well spent.
ordered the Aeron chair for home office use during the lock down. There was an understandable wait due to Herman Miller lead time. Initial shipping was through Fedex and the product was slight damaged from shipping. Hive Modern quickly issued an exchange replacement with Herman Miller using a different shipping company. The second chair arrived in perfect condition. Awesome customer support from Hive Modern! Chair itself is comfortable and easy to rock back and forth.
Like a huge chunk of America, I've found myself working from home for the foreseeable future, and had my eye on this chair since long before. Finally bit the bullet, taking advantage of a great sale price, and wish I'd bought earlier.
Happy with the redesign
imo this is the only office chair worth considering. you can adjust the height, the arms, move the lumbar, adjust the tension of the back so it has a relaxed feel or make it more rigid or lock the back if you prefer. the adjustability of chair is what makes it - you can make it your own. someone in my office sat in my chair and adjusted it and i could tell immediately - who sat in my chair! i bought my first aeron chair about 12 years ago and you can't tell the difference from the day i purchased it. it is maybe one of the highest quality things i have ever purchased and of course it is gorgeous. i have two now and would never buy another office chair.
I got this chair to replace an old, cheap one that was falling apart. At my old office, we had the first generation of Aeron chair and I really liked them. I figured I'd spend a little more and get a lot more. I certainly got a lot more in terms of comfort and posture support, but I also paid a lot, lot more in money. If I had to do it again, I'd probably still get this chair because it's exceptional, from comfort and support to build quality, and I'm sure it'll last a long time. However, the price would still be a kick in the face. I work from home so I spend a lot of time in this chair, but if you aren't someone who's either going to spend a lot of time in it or someone who has a lot of cash to burn, I'd maybe continue your search for something not quite so extravagant if your heart isn't set on it. I'm sure if I had more time to look, I could've found something comparable in quality and lower in price.
I purchased this chair specifically because I have a really bad back. I'm 5'9", about 190 pounds and have 3 herniated disks in my back (1 upper, 2 lower). Im a systems engineer and can sit all day long in my chair, so when I injured my back again about 3 weeks ago, it was time to get a decent chair. I bought the redesigned chair (redesigned in 2016) with almost all options except seat tilt (Doctor says everyone should be sitting flat and not tilted). Chair is extremely comfortable, but the main thing I notice is that when I sit for a long time and getup, my back isn't stiff like it usually is. The only thing I wish is that the back support pushed into my back a bit more. The chair is a 10 and Id recommend anyone with a bad back or posture to get it. However, there is no way the chair should be $1k. I can see $300-$400 but $1k+ is robbery. Here I am with a $1k chair....
