This is the Catania rug from the GAN kilim collection, designed by Sandra Figuerola and inspired by recurring tile patterns, very present in the culture of the Mediterranean basin. It is a piece with moderate graphics but intensely colorful, with a protagonist presence of the color red.

The kilim is an artisan method of rug making in which the weft is tightly woven on a manual loom, using only threads and no knotting. The result is a light fabric with no pile, similar to that of upholstery. It is a technique that offers great flexibility, a feature that GAN explores thoroughly to create high-impact details.

Sandra Figuerola proposes intentional asymmetry, combining three totally different patterns in this kilim design. Thus, the piece is framed by a stripe of rhombuses and two stripes of black lines of different densities, reminiscent of those secondary designs often present in antique floors. Catania is available in three sizes.
