jens risom outdoor lounge chair

Jens Risom's original 1941 collection for Knoll incorporates a natural aesthetic, characteristic of understated Scandinavian design. Described as good, honest furniture design, the Risom Collection helped establish Knoll as an early source of modern design in America. Three-quarters of a century later, selected products from the original collection have been re-engineered for outdoor use. Oiled teak frames ready these classics for a life outside.

Danish-born Jens Risom immigrated to the United States in 1939 and designed Knoll's first commissioned collection, including a range of simple birchwood chairs in 1941. After World War II, he founded his own company and was among the first to manufacture furniture consisting of interchangeable standard components. Risom was knighted by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark in 1996.

The Risom Outdoor Collection consists of an armless lounge chair, ottoman, side chair and two side tables and features Sunbrella ® webbing and solid teak lumber. Sunbrella webbing marries high design with proven durability and performance. The straps are made with reinforced Sunbrella yarns that are designed to flex, and feature a soft, supple hand that is bleach cleanable, water repellent and UV/fade resistant. The lounge and side chairs have reinforced frames with teak stretchers underneath the seat for increased strength and durability against the elements. We are thrilled to bring the simplicity and artistry of Jens Risom's designs to patios, public spaces and poolside!

Please note: teak will patina over time if left outdoors and will turn a silvery grey color.
