poul volther ej5 corona chair & ottoman

When Poul M. Volther created Corona in 1964 the chair was an obvious hit. Corona was light yet had a sculptural gravity that was not easily forgotten. This combination made Corona a star in countless movies, fashion series and music videos; in fact, Corona probably has the most impressive stage career of all Erik Jørgensen's products. Corona's success is partly due to its fusion of technical cool and warm and inviting form that refers directly to the human anatomy with its spine and ribs.

Poul M. Volther was a trained cabinetmaker who also attended the School of Arts and Crafts. He belonged to the generation of architects who had their roots in Scandinavian functionalism, where organic design and the modernist motto of form-follows-function prevailed. In addition to leaving his mark in Danish and international design history with his Corona chair, Poul M. Volther also taught at The Danish Design School and thus influenced hundreds of new designers with his unerring sense of form and his strict requirements for quality and functionality.

The Corona lounge chair & ottoman feature molded polyurethane foam and can be upholstered in a variety of fabric or leather options. The spring steel base can be specified in brushed chrome or black. The chair base swivels but the ottoman does not. Matching ottoman is included. Please call the hive showroom with any questions: 1-866-663-4483.
