poul volther ej5 corona wood frame chair

A true original. Poul M. Volther's original concept for Corona was to create an easy chair with a wooden frame. A natural base in a natural material lending natural support to the oval pads that climb upwards like a spine to support the body, crowned by a neck rest. The wooden frame gives the Corona a new warm touch while complimenting the characteristic shape of its oval seats. Through 50 years the Corona has proven itself and achieved status as a classic icon. A more exquisite workmanship is hard to come by.

Poul M. Volther was a trained cabinetmaker who also attended the School of Arts and Crafts. He belonged to the generation of architects who had their roots in Scandinavian functionalism, where organic design and the modernist motto of form-follows-function prevailed. In addition to leaving his mark in Danish and international design history with his Corona chair, Poul M. Volther also taught at The Danish Design School and thus influenced hundreds of new designers with his unerring sense of form and his strict requirements for quality and functionality.

The Corona classic lounge chair features molded polyurethane foam and can be upholstered in a variety of fabric or leather options. The base can be specified in oak or walnut. The Corona chair is also offered with a metal base. Please call the hive showroom with any questions: 1-866-663-4483.
