washington skeleton side chair

David Adjaye's cantilevered chairs establish a play between propping and balancing, so they are simultaneously functional and sculptural. The Washington Skeleton™ chair is reduced to a fine geometric lattice while its inverted counterpoint, Skin, offers a colorful envelope to the same form.

David Adjaye OBE is recognized as one of the leading architects of his generation. Adjaye was born in Tanzania to Ghanaian parents and his influences range from contemporary art, music and science to African art forms and the civic life of cities. In 1994 he set up his first office, where his ingenious use of materials and his sculptural ability established him as an architect with an artist's sensibility and vision.

The Washington Skeleton chair is constructed from die-cast aluminum. The shell and legs are cast in three parts and are connected using mortise and tenon joinery and stainless steel fasteners. With proper care, the Washington Skeleton chair in powder coat paint finishes are appropriate for outdoor use. Each chair includes four nylon glides. The Skeleton chair is also offered with a natural copper plated finish that will patina with age.
