mayday lamp 20th anniversary edition

"It was a lamp I wanted to have for myself - a lamp that I felt should be something like a tool. A tool is an object that fulfills a function - a very concrete function - and normally its form explains the function. That's what makes a tool so beautiful." -Konstantin Grcic

A versatile, contemporary table lamp from designer Konstantin Grcic, May Day is a brilliant blend of utility and sophistication. It features an injection-molded, tapered opaline polypropylene diffuser. May Day hook/handle also acts as a cord-winder, and is made of 10% talc-filled injection-molded polypropylene. On/off switch on the handle.

Released in 2020, designer Konstantin Grcic revisits the Mayday, his first-ever design for Flos, with a special 20th anniversary edition featuring a sleek, die-cast aluminum handle. Each handle has engraved the exclusive and unique progressive serial number for each piece plus the designer's signature. The incision was made by traditional handcrafted mechanical punching.

Originally designed in 2000, Konstantin Grcic offers a lamp that is the height of functionality, but doesn’t skimp on beauty. He created this conical light to go anywhere it is needed - whether that means it's displayed prominently or illuminates a utility closet.

Konstantin Grcic was born in Munich, Germany in 1965. After training as a cabinet maker at Parnham College in England he studied design at the Royal College of Art in London from 1988-1990. Konstantin Grcic creates industrial products widely described as pared down, simple, minimalist. What sets him apart from the minimalism in fashionable currency today is that he defines function in human terms, combining maximum formal strictness with considerable mental acuity and humor.
