Among the prize winners of MoMA's 1948 International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design was the prototype of a one-piece shell chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames. Among them, but since lost to history, was the LAR -Low Armchair Rod Base- which converted the versatile single-shell armchair design into a low-set lounge height chair.
