mon amie mug

One rainy midsummer day in the late 1940s Marianne Westman sat sketching a white Labrador tea flower. Later, after graduating from Stockholm's University College of Arts, Crafts & Design, she used that sketch as the springboard for an outstanding design career. Her first service was launched as Mon Amie in 1952, by which time the flowers had acquired a cobalt blue nuance. To celebrate Marianne's 80th birthday in 2008 Mon Amie was updated and relaunched - a shining example of a true Rörstrand classic.

At first 22-year-old Marianne Westman was reluctant to embark on a design career with Rörstrand. Her dream had always been to have her own ceramics workshop in her home town of Falun. But her sketch of a flower - transformed into the decoration for Mon Amie, her debut and her masterpiece - heralded the shift to the new, brighter everyday life that people yearned for in the 1950s. Marianne was often quick to identify new trends and production methods. Her distinctive, light-hearted designs for household items in the 1950s and 1960s have earned her a lasting place in Swedish design history.

Rörstrand porcelain is dishwasher, microwave, oven and freezer safe.
