Design BassamFellows, 2014
Solid ash or walnut, foam, dacron, polyester, upholstery
Made in the USA by Geiger®

The Tuxedo Classic, a new group for the Tuxedo Lounge Collection, extends the line's range, simplifying materials and replacing metal with wood. Its new and larger upholstered base sits closer to the floor, supported on solid wood circular legs, creating a more anchored, traditional appearance.

Comfort is the main priority with Tuxedo Classic, and it allows the sitter to perch upright and take part in a meeting or to sit in a relaxed posture and still use a laptop or mobile device. The sitter can also press into the seat back, which flexes for a more casual lounging posture. Ergonomically shaped, dual-density foam cushions add firm support.

The Tuxedo Classic Sofa features round solid ash or walnut legs with foam, Dacron and polyester cushions upholstered in a range of fabrics. Expert craftsmanship is evident in the fine upholstery details. Arm panels are gently rounded and top stitched. The seat and back cushions can be quilted, providing handcrafted detail and a softly tailored surface. The group includes a lounge chair, settee, and sofa as well as corner units for all sizes. The sofa is offered online with arms but can also be specified armless or arm on left or right, please call to order.

Flexible and functional, the Tuxedo collection can be configured to suit a multitude of spaces, including executive offices, casual conference areas, lobby and reception areas, in addition to living rooms and residential spaces.

Herman Miller was a West Michigan businessman who helped his son-in-law, D.J. De Pree, buy the Michigan Star Furniture Company in 1923. De Pree had been working at the company, which opened in 1905, since he was hired in 1909 as a clerk. De Pree knew his father-in-law was a man of integrity, so he decided to rename the company after him. By the middle of the 20th century, the name Herman Miller had become synonymous with modern furniture. Working with legendary designers George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames, the company produced pieces that would become classics of industrial design.
