sarfatti model 607 table lamp

Design Gino Sarfatti, 1971
Steel, brass
Made in Italy by Flos

"Re-lighting" Sarfatti is a term used by Flos in the re-introduction of the first set of lamps designed by Gino Sarfatti. While his designs still appear incredibly contemporary in terms of their forms and the physical-psychological relationship with the user, this did not hold true from the perspective of lighting technology. Detracting nothing from the integrity of the lamps' original form, It was essential for Flos to bring these objects into the present day by adopting cutting-edge LED technology, which had to be introduced with the utmost sophistication yet without being invasive. Through a long and complex endeavor, the first set of lamps are once again available to light up our homes.

During his work in the lighting sector, Gino Sarfatti set up Arteluce, which became an international reference point for the modern architectural lighting movement and also a meeting place and forum for many of the leading Italian designers of the 50's and 60's. He designed and produced over four hundred luminaries and conducted extensive research into the innovation and design aspects of lighting.

Model 607 is a table lamp emitting direct light, made up of two elements that are mechanically snapped together: a disc-shaped diffuser with a truncated cone section in painted aluminum and craquele finish, and a slanted parallel-piped base in painted aluminum, which gives the lamp stability. The switch with dimmer is positioned on the front at the foot of the base. Model 607 is offered in your choice of white or black.

gino sarfatti

During his thirty years of activity, Gino Sarfatti designed and produced over 400 luminaires and carried out non-stop research into innovation, typology, materials, production technologies, light sources, technical lighting effects and design aspects.
The furniture manufacturers and entrepreneurs Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina founded Flos which became one of the leading Italian light manufacturers in the second half of the 20th century. Its origins lay in the energy of Arturo Eisenkeil who, in 1959, was seeking to find applications for a new, plastic-based material that he was importing to Italy from the United States. Called ‘cocoon’, it was a spray-on plastic coating that Gavina and Cassina recognized as having potential for lighting design. From the outset, Flos established its reputation through its innovative lighting designs from Achille Castiglioni. The collaboration with Achille Castiglioni continued through the '90s, and in 1992 he introduced the "family of products" concept to the market with the Brera series. At the same time, Flos continued to scout for emerging talent at an international level. The first Philippe Starck lamp, Ârŕ, was produced in 1998, followed by the Miss Sissi lamp, Romeo Moon, and Archimoon series.
