Design Ward Bennett, 1963
Matte black textured aluminum
Made in the USA by Geiger®

A versatile pedestal, side table, or coffee table, Ward Bennett's I Beam Tables pay tribute to modern architecture and industrial exactness. Part of Ward Bennett's inaugural furniture collection for Brickel in 1963, the design was inspired by a piece in his own long island vacation home. Crafted from matte black powder-coated cast aluminum and either left bare or topped with glass or stone, the I Beam Tables offer an auxiliary surface and a witty artistic statement.

Ward Bennett's story is a remarkable one. His career began at age 13, when he quit school to work in the garment district in New York City. At 15, he designed his first clothing collection; at 16 he left for Europe, where he continued working on fashions. Simplicity and comfort were always his goals. Bennett designed more than 150 chairs, many of which have become classics. He is considered the first American to use industrial materials for home furnishings, well before the high-tech look of the 1970s became popular. He was hailed by the American Institute of Architects for "transforming industrial hardware into sublime objects." Many of Bennett's designs are in the Museum of Modern Art's permanent collection as well as in the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum; he is also in Interior Design magazine's Hall of Fame.

Please note: natural characteristics in stone cause variations in hues, veins, crystals, and distinctive marks. These are subtle changes seen as the stone ages & values associated with natural materials. No two tabletops are identically the same; variations in both color and veining are to be expected. Over time the stone may fade in color, staining of the surface may appear, and surface cracks-if not already visible at time of purchase-may appear. Small cracks do not affect the structure of the tabletop.
