la cintura di orione flambé set 90110 + 90111

Design Richard Sapper, 1986
Copper, 18/10 stainless steel
Made in Italy by Alessi

The flambé pan is a metal utensil which is usually round and shallow, with sloping sides and a long wooden handle. The lamp is a tall, cylindrically-shaped utensil, composed of an alcohol reservoir, a wick burner and a grid on which to place the pan (or another vessel) for side-table cooking. It is also perfect for sautéing directly at the table, or it can be used to keep food hot while serving. This set includes the flambé pan, lamp & lid.

The project "La Cintura di Orione" is dedicated to the "private gourmet", namely those enthusiasts of intelligent and creative cooking. Most pieces of the La Cintura collection are produced in special dual lamina (outside extra thick copper + inside in 18/10 mirror polished stainless steel), which offers a more professional performance and allows the advantages of copper as far as conduction and homogeneous distribution of heat are concerned. These features are paired with extremely hygienic stainless steel inside.

Born in Munich in 1932, Richard Sapper studied philosophy, anatomy, graphics, engineering and economics. Ten times winner of the Compassi d'Oro, his prime interest is the design of technically complex objects, from ships to watches.

Richard Sapper

Richard Sapper, born in Munich, designs products featuring a combination of technical innovation, simplicity of form, and an element of wit and surprise. He has received numerous international design awards, including 10 prestigious Compasso d'Oro awards and the Raymond Loewy Foundation's Lucky Strike award. His products are part of the permanent collections of many museums around the world, with over 15 represented at New York's MoMA, as well as London's Victoria and Albert and Design Museums. Upon starting his own independent studio in 1959, Sapper designed the Tizio lamp for Artemide, one of the best selling lamps ever produced. In 1978 Alessi commissioned Sapper with the first product in a long series to come, the stove-top espresso maker 9090.
Alessi was founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi to produce crafted metal products for eating and drinking. In 1935, Carlo Alessi, son of Giovanni, was named chief designer. In 1945, he ascended to chief executive and designed the coffee service Bombe, an industrial piece manufactured in four sizes. That same year Carlo's younger brother, Ettore Alessi, joined the company as a technician. By the 1980s, Alberto Alessi took over the management of Alessi and launched the Alessi company into the design decade through collaborations with designers such as Philippe Starck and his playful three-legged Juicy Salif citrus squeezer.
