A creative genius with natural curiosity and a strong sense of irony, Achille Castiglioni was one of the masters of Italian design. Designed in 1995, this fruit bowl/colander is a perfect example of Castiglioni's ability to solve the little problems of dining though smart, functional innovation. This precious, limited series is made in stainless steel with an elegant copper color finish. Stainless steel copper color PVD coating and a stand in anthracite color aluminum. Castiglioni

Achille Castiglioni (1918 - 2002) was a renowned Italian industrial designer often inspired by everyday things. He made use of ordinary materials, preferring to use minimal materials to create a maximal effect. Born in Milan, Castiglioni studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano University and set up a design office in 1944 with his brothers, Livio Castiglioni and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni. The brothers held the viewpoint that design must restructure an object's function, form, and production process. “Start from scratch. Stick to common sense. Know your goals and means,” Castiglioni said. He was best known for his lamps, including Flos, Luminator, Bulb, Arco, and the Snoopy Lamp, inspired by the comics character.
Alessi was founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi to produce crafted metal products for eating and drinking. In 1935, Carlo Alessi, son of Giovanni, was named chief designer. In 1945, he ascended to chief executive and designed the coffee service Bombé, an industrial piece manufactured in four sizes. That same year Carlo's younger brother, Ettore Alessi, joined the company as a technician. By the 1980s, Alberto Alessi took over the management of Alessi and launched the Alessi company into the design decade through collaborations with designers such as Philippe Starck and his playful three-legged Juicy Salif citrus squeezer.
