Vitro Wall Lamp

from Fontana Arte

vitro wall lamp

vitro wall lamp

Design Emmanuel Babled, 2014
Opaque, opaline or clear plastic polymer
Made in Italy by FontanaArte

Vitro comes from the idea to create a lamp enhancing the characteristics and brilliance of objects made from glass. This initial idea led to a new technological challenge: to use the most evolved plastic polymers on the market to produce a light capable of conveying the same "magic" as cut glass, a material that makes objects extremely beautiful and intriguing regardless of their function. Designers and architects thus created a multipurpose lamp, with super-resistant product architecture having all the requisites of strength and comfort that are not possible with glass.

Vitro is made from three injection-molded pieces in self-supporting, self-extinguishing technopolymers. The body enables very quick installation to whatever support the user chooses. The internal part is molded in a material with a very high light diffusion coefficient to guarantee visual comfort and recreate the shape and color of a traditional halogen light source. In both the super-clear and metallic versions, the lens copies and enhances the cut glass effect. The LED technology works on direct mains voltage and can be regulated. It can be wall or ceiling mounted. Vitro can also be semi-recessed thanks to a template sold as an accessory. Also suitable for outdoors. Dimmable with remote light dimmer (not supplied).

The Fontana Arte company was formed in 1932 by Gio Ponti under the parent company Luigi Fontana, a leader in advanced glass manufacturing and design. Ponti was a skilled artist in many trades as well as the editor of Domus magazine. He had an intuition to use glass as a distinguishing feature in furniture, lamps and objects. Already designing homes, he could employ this concept in the interior decor. Fontana Arte produced many ornate stained-glass windows in churches, cathedrals, and palaces, including the Duomo of Milan and the Cathedral of Brasilia. Years later, the company has built a name collaborating with respected designers and architects. Fontana Arte continues to evolve and reach out to work with more designers and other companies.
