ghost rug

"I created a small part of the design every day, sometimes painting by day, sometimes by night... The graphic arrhythmias reflect my different moods over the course of three months it took me to complete the design, adding a mystical element to the Ghost rug." -Martí Guixé

Marti Guixe, a conceptual and unconventional design visionary, wished to revive the magic of the classic Kerman rugs, breathing new life into the mythical pictorial motifs of birds, flowers, horses, and deer that appear and disappear... like ghosts. A faithful rendition of the extraordinary simplicity and gravity to be found in this artist's work. The Ghost rug combines shadows of black and white, a mysterious blend of past and present. The busy design and color saturation of the pattern offer a contemporary twist on this traditional rug style, drawing you into the exuberance of the scene, so timeless and yet so fresh.

The weaving technique used in this collection is the vertical handloom technique. The thread is tightly fastened to the warp by a knot. The type and thickness of the knot differentiate the various kinds of hand-knotted rugs; the greater the number of knots, the greater the definition, durability and value of the rug. This technique allows for the creation of highly-detailed patterns.
