bocci 28d table lamp

28 is an exploration of specificity in manufacturing. Instead of designing form itself, here the intent was to design a system of making that yields form. Individual 28 pendants result from a complex glass blowing technique whereby air pressure is intermittently introduced into and then removed from a glass matrix which is intermittently heated and then rapidly cooled. The result is a distorted spherical shape with a composed collection of imploded inner shapes, one of which acts as a shade for a low voltage (12V, 20W) xenon light source. Each sphere contains an interior landscape of satellite shapes, including an opaque milk glass diffuser.

28d low-voltage lamp is designed to be placed on a surface, such as a table, shelf or floor. 28d consists of a single sphere wired to a flexible 15' foot grey crochet memory cable with wall plug. Includes dimming memory system (tap on/off and tap and hold to adjust brightness).

Bocci Creative Director Omer Arbel explores the intrinsic mechanical, physical, and chemical qualities of materials as fundamental departure points for making work. His interdisciplinary practice spans multiple scales and cultural-economic contexts. Omer Arbel's work has been exhibited in various museums around the world.

In 2005, Bocci was founded in a red barn surrounded by hay fields, on the periphery of Vancouver, Canada. The company launched with one product, 14, which became an instant classic and remains a design staple and bestseller. Today, Bocci has a growing portfolio of contemporary design ranging from light installations through to furniture and electrical sockets. All Bocci designs are developed, engineered, and fabricated in-house through an infrastructure calibrated to provide full control over technique, quality, and scale.
