waver lounge chair

The Waver armchair is the first collaborative project between Vitra and Konstantin Grcic. Waver embodies a new aesthetic, incorporating materials and construction principles from the outdoor sports that inspired the design. The idea behind Waver was to deliberately not use a conventional armchair typology. Though its technical construction is simple, Waver offers the very comfortable seating one generally associates with classic upholstered furniture. The energetic colorfulness of the fabrics and the clearly emphasised connecting and functional elements give Waver its sporty look and feel.

Konstantin Grcic was born in Munich, Germany in 1965. After training as a cabinet maker at Parnham College in England he studied design at the Royal College of Art in London from 1988-1990. Konstantin Grcic creates industrial products widely described as pared down, simple, minimalist. What sets him apart from the minimalism in fashionable currency today is that he defines function in human terms, combining maximum formal strictness with considerable mental acuity and humor.

Despite its simple construction comprising just one layer of fabric, Waver, in combination with the neck cushion (included), offers a high level of seating comfort. This is further enhanced by its swivel chair function and its large cantilever frame, which allow great freedom of movement. Waver not only complements your living room as a cosy reading or television chair, thanks to its waterproof materials, it is also suitable for use in the garden or on the patio.
