riart rocker

Following the success of the Nakashima chair and the design trend towards a more residential look and feel, KnollStudio reintroduces the Riart Rocker.

To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the design of the Barcelona Pavilion, Knoll selected Carlos Riart, the Barcelona-based industrial designer, to design a piece of furniture. Knoll's design brief specified only that the piece be a "lounge chair object" and that it should be strongest in profile to match the character of Mies's iconic chair from 1929. Riart's chair was considered a successful tribute to its forebear, dramatic in form and exquisite in hand-finished industrial execution.

The chair is reintroduced in two versions: American Walnut with light lacquer finish or medium Figured English Sycamore. Both versions have decorative inlays (Mother of Pearl for light Walnut or ebony inlays for Sycamore), an instance of postmodern craft enhancing utility.
