wavy stacking chair

As always, Ron Arad explores the potential capacities and performance of the materials he works with and raises the bar. Wavy, a chair with a plastic seat on a metal base, whose name describes its graceful shape. Not only is the seat wavy, but its surface is covered in tiny rows of waves.

Ron Arad uses plastic unconventionally and achieves an extraordinarily light effect. The plastic appears to become a soft fabric draped over the metal frame. Wavy has a gentle, light air and an unusual feeling of malleability. Yet it is also snug and comfortable, its tiny surface waves massage the body and ensure optimum comfort. "A chair has a given shape, a well-defined function. The very fact that its design has been so thoroughly explored and reinterpreted makes the discovery of new territories even more exciting".

Hailed as one of the foremost designers of the 20th Century, Ron Arad was born in Tel Aviv and studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Art before moving to London and the Architectural Association where he studied under Peter Cook, founder of Archigram. Ron Arad has successfully established a unique design style using unorthodox combinations of materials and concepts.

Wavy is offered in three colors and is available with a black varnished or stainless steel frame. Can be stacked up to 4 chairs.
