Herman Miller Select, a once-a-year limited edition product release for those with impeccable taste and an eye for good design. Be it a once decommissioned piece culled from the Herman Miller collection, a classic that’s been fashioned of new materials and finishes, or a new objet d’art, the annual release is selected for originality and is signed and/or numbered for authenticity.

Inspired by Charles and Ray’s philosophy of ‘serious pleasure’ and their 1969 film, “Tops,” Herman miller has created an original set of three walnut spinning tops that are as sculptural and beautiful, as they are fun. Designed by the New York City design studio, KleinReid, the Tops are both classic toys and kinetic art.

As avid toy collectors and designers, Charles and Ray Eames considered playtime, productive time. Charles once noted, “Toys are not really as innocent as they look. Toys and games are preludes to serious ideas.” He recognized what psychologists have since acknowledged; the act of play causes the brain to fire in new ways, opening connections for ideation and problem solving.

Three of twelve designs were chosen for the Select edition set. Additional designs, slated for future release, will round out the unique collection.
