Kaj Franck
Kaj Franck of Vyborg, Finland (1911-1989) is perhaps best know for his Kartio glassware series or his Teema tableware, but also worked as an interior designer, decorator, and textile designer. The Kartio series, which was made for the Iittala company, was a distillation of Franck’s belief that a product must be practical, durable, functional, and even easy to clean. The Teema series was based on the circle, square, and cone. Sometimes described as the conscience of Finnish design, he left only the essentials in his work until each was a product of constant simplicity.
