Design René Holten, 2014
Steel, Aluminum, foam, upholstery, wheels
Made in The Netherlands by Artifort

Ultimate sitting comfort with many faces - that is Mood by René Holten. A sleekly-upholstered bucket seat with five different bases, four different styles of upholstery and a great many color and fabric options. The ideal dining chair for every interior style.

If you would prefer a Mood with a Scandinavian look, opt for soft, woolen fabrics in pastel colors and the wooden or wire-frame base. If something rugged and industrial would suit you better, select the stainless-steel strip base in combination with an exclusive leather cover. And if you have a classic and understated interior, the rotary disc-shaped base may be ideal for you - subtle and elegant, with two-color upholstery. There's no shortage of options. There is always a Mood that suits you.

Rene Holten is a graduate of the Design Academy in Eindhoven. His first design for Artifort was the DoDo in 1997, which immediately won the best Dutch Furniture Design in 1998. Holten enjoys sober, clean lines of design and seating. A large number of his designs are now included in the Artifort collection. The Lotus chair, received the Good Industrial Design award in 2009. And his Mare & More Mare sofa series is a favorite item in many living rooms. The Pinq Lounge bears his unmistakeable signature - an almost sculptural design and yet surprisingly comfortable.

Mood chairs are offered with a single-fabric option (offered online), a two-fabric top/bottom option, a two-fabric inside/outside option, and a special leather upholstery version with accentuated stitching. There are also five different bases: one with four oak legs, one with a wire frame, a disc-shaped one, one with a four-toed strip, and a five-toed office chair base. All five are available in various finishes.

Rene Holten

Rene Holten (b. 1961) was born in the Netherlands and studied Architectural Design at the Academy of Arts in Maastricht, in the Netherlands, graduating in 1987. He established his architecture office in Switzerland in 1988. In 1990, he worked for the architect Wiel Arets. He graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, Netherlands, studying industrial product design. By 1993 he started his own industrial design office.
The foundations of Artifort were laid by Jules Wagemans. In 1890, he set up business as an upholsterer in Maastricht. His son, Henricus Wagemans, expanded the company into a furniture factory, which had a showroom in Amsterdam by the end of the 1930’s and was already well known nationally. The economic recession of the nineteen thirties forced H. Wagemans & Van Tuinen, as the furniture company was then known, to create a distinctive profile. The emphasis came to lie on functionality, comfort, and quality combined with aesthetically pleasing design and an innovative use of materials. The new brand name became Artifort, derived from the Latin word 'ars' meaning “art or knowledge”, and 'fortis' meaning “strong or powerful.”
