random light led floor lamp

random light led floor lamp

Design Bertjan Pot, 2010
Fiberglass soaked in epoxy resin, steel, aluminum heat sink, opal glass
Made in The Netherlands by Moooi

For the first time the Random Light stops drifting and comes down to earth...literally! Random Light LED floor lamp is the first floor lamp available from the Random light family. The Random light is a resin drained yarn which is randomly coiled around an inflatable mold creating a magic translucent 3D fabric. Sounds simple but it took 3 years to develop. The Random light is the lighter way to occupy a space.

Bertjan Pot is a designer of mostly furniture and lighting. His methods are concentrated in his interest in skins of the structural and non-structural kind. He studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven. He considers theory as something to think about and something to discuss when not designing. "When it comes to designing one should just design without being blocked by too many theories."

Random light includes 98.4" black cord and is available in two sizes in your choice of either black shade with a semi-gloss black powder-coat base or white shade with a matte chromed steel base. Touch dimmer integrated in base.

Bertjan Pot

Bertjan Pot (b. 1975) of the Netherlands focuses in the material and production processes. He enjoys computer aesthetics and industrial production methods, but arrives at them without using them as a design tool. Almost all of his designs come from experiments in materials. His results often display merely the skin of his chosen material, creating translucence in his lighting and furniture, such as his popular Carbon Chair, Random Light, Random Chair, or Knitted lamp. In the case of the Random Light, a resin drained yarn is randomly coiled around and inflatable beach ball, creating a translucent 3D fabric. The ball is then deflated and extracted from a round opening in the lamp, leaving only the “skin.”
Founded in 2001 by complementing personalities Marcel Wanders and Casper Vissers, Moooi is named after the native Dutch word for “beautiful”. According to the company, “the third ‘o’ in the brand name stands for an extra value in terms of beauty & uniqueness.” In additon to Wanders’ work, Moooi has produced work from Bertjan Pot, Maarten Baas, Ross Lovegrove and Studio Job. Ultimately, Wanders is responsible for the overall design selection process.
