Design Jonathan Kim, 2013
Solid walnut, upholstery
Made in USA by Bernhardt Design

American like apple pie, but with a twist. Designer Jonathan Kim set out to remake the iconic rocking chair as a contemporary, youthful and comfortable lounge chair. He lowered the profile, upholstered the seat, and designed a solid walnut sled base that's solid, yet visually light. Perfect for a hip nursery, open living room or collaborative office space, Remix is available in a variety of textiles and leathers.

A native Californian, Jonathan Kim was introduced to the Environmental Design program at Art Center College of Design which would provide the bridge between architecture, branding and products that would allow him to engage in his varied creative interests. After enrolling, Kim became particularly interested in technological processes like rapid prototyping and fabrication. With the accelerated learning process and industry connections at Art Center, Kim quickly gained practical real-world exposure. His design philosophy is rooted in observation - studying the world around him and striving to design spaces and products that help people "act faster, smarter and better."

Bernhardt Design was founded in 1980 by the 125-year-old Bernhardt Furniture Company. In 2001, Bernhardt Design cemented its reputation as a leader and innovator in furniture design and production by partnering with Ross Lovegrove to create the iconic Go Chair, the world’s first magnesium chair. Since then, President Jerry Helling has assembled an international roster of creative talent, including Arik Levy, Jaime Hayon, Jeffrey Bernett, Lievore Altherr Molina, Yves Béhar and Charles Pollock. Bernhardt Design strongly supports the rising generation of creative talent through its interdisciplinary course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the ICFF Studio program.
