Design Patrick Jouin
Fully upholstered
Made in USA by Bernhardt Design

With its undulating segments that rise, fall and are free from right angles, Item serves as a platform for creating the perfect landscape for wide open spaces, communal areas, and even small rooms. Item originated in Parisian designer Patrick Jouin's fascination with language and the creation of music. "When you create several elements, as with letters or musical notes, there is the possibility to create an entire language, an
entire symphony," says Jouin. By freeing the sofa from the conventional "box" and taking advantage of all three dimensions, Item allows people to truly compose their living space.

A graduate of the École Nationale de Création Industrielle (ENSCI), designer Patrick Jouin founded his agency in the 11th arrondissement in Paris in 1998. From year to year and project to project - interiors, product and furniture, exhibitions, and architecture - the agency has grown in recognition on the international stage. Jouin stands out through his elegant, clean style designed to serve the project: the quest for balance between tradition and innovation leads to luminous, enchanted designs.

Item seating units are fully upholstered and include all necessary ganging brackets. The collection can also be specified with various custom configurations not offered online, please call for details and to order. Item is Level 1 & Greenguard certified.

Patrick Jouin

After earning his BA in 1986, Patrick Jouin studied design at the ENSCI of Paris and graduated in 1992. He began working for Thomson Multimedia , before joining the agency Philippe Starck a year later. In 1998, he founded his own agency for design, objects, and interior architecture. It creates pieces that are published by LignRoset , Cassina , Fermob , Kartell and Alessi. His style is often described as discrete and uncluttered. Nevertheless, it is elegant, poetic and combines tradition and modernity.
Bernhardt Design was founded in 1980 by the 125-year-old Bernhardt Furniture Company. In 2001, Bernhardt Design cemented its reputation as a leader and innovator in furniture design and production by partnering with Ross Lovegrove to create the iconic Go Chair, the world’s first magnesium chair. Since then, President Jerry Helling has assembled an international roster of creative talent, including Arik Levy, Jaime Hayon, Jeffrey Bernett, Lievore Altherr Molina, Yves Béhar and Charles Pollock. Bernhardt Design strongly supports the rising generation of creative talent through its interdisciplinary course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the ICFF Studio program.
