Design Yves Béhar
Solid maple or walnut, polished stainless steel legs
Made in USA by Bernhardt Design

It's easy to see the connection between the Fly bench and its name. Created by acclaimed designer Yves Behar, it is all about tension and balance. Tension between the seat's mass and the lightness of the triangular bases. But also the tension and balance needed in the sail of a kite or bird's wings to allow them to soar. This restrained, yet elegant piece also balances modern form with the natural characteristic of wood, and is a beautiful addition to a hall or living space, or at the foot of a bed.

Béhar's approach combines the application of new technologies and unique functions with a humanistic perspective. By fusing poetry with pragmatism, innovative ideas are applied to the products: bringing story and message into the product experience. This unique approach has been internationally recognized in museums and competitions alike. Yves Béhar is also the founder of fuseproject, an integrated design agency dedicated to the development of the emotional experience of brands through story-telling and spans products, environments, graphics, packaging, apparel and strategy development. Béhar’s work has been featured in two solo shows. He is also the recipient of numerous design awards for his work around the world.

Yves Behar

Yves Behar is a thinker. And one thing he thinks about a lot is the future. You can see it in his designs--from his reflective red-lacquered laptop for Toshiba to his elegant closed-toe Footprints for Birkenstock to his refined Aliph Jawbone Headset for cell phones. "I believe design's purpose is not only to show us the future, but to bring us the future," he states.
Bernhardt Design was founded in 1980 by the 125-year-old Bernhardt Furniture Company. In 2001, Bernhardt Design cemented its reputation as a leader and innovator in furniture design and production by partnering with Ross Lovegrove to create the iconic Go Chair, the world’s first magnesium chair. Since then, President Jerry Helling has assembled an international roster of creative talent, including Arik Levy, Jaime Hayon, Jeffrey Bernett, Lievore Altherr Molina, Yves Béhar and Charles Pollock. Bernhardt Design strongly supports the rising generation of creative talent through its interdisciplinary course at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and the ICFF Studio program.
