olav 2.5-seat couch

Design Gijs Papavoine, 2011
Wood & metal frame, HR & memory foam, steel
Made in Holland by Montis

Olav is a compact sofa with a luxurious look and feel. The use of the highest quality leather truly does justice to the design. The upholstery with double lining is stitched in a tight linear pattern, further emphasizing the richness and solidity of the design. The upholstery runs without interruption from the front upper support section over the top and halfway down the back panel. The arms have a tight circular pattern on top around a front panel, giving the design a classic look. Olav is a timeless sofa for 'all ages'.

Gijs Papavoine studied at the institute of technology and Eindhoven Academy for Industrial Design in the product Design department. Gijs was employed as a Product Manager at Montis until 1990. In this capacity, he was jointly responsible for Montis' design philosophy. In 1990, Gijs was promoted to dedicated designer of Montis.

Olav allows you to configure your entire sitting area, as it is available in an armchair model as well as in 2,5- 3- and 3,5- seater models. The sled base is offered in high polished chrome with rubber feet.

Gijs Papavoine

Born in 1949, Gijs graduated from both the Institute of Technology and the Industrial Design Academy in Eindhoven, after also studying at the Higher Technical Schoo. In 1976 he started his career with Montis in the Product Development department and would forever be associated with the company. He quickly ascended to the position of Product Manager and shared responsibility for Montis' design philosophy, leaving a clear mark on the company. He was promoted to head of the Montis design team in 1990 and designed models for InterArt; such as Escargot, Sumo and Kibuki.
Papavoine’s style is characterized by a clear, graceful and refined interplay of lines, with a strong sense of simplicity. His Basso Lounge Chair, part of a complete seating set for Vandersluis, was awarded the Red Dot Award in 2011.
Montis was established in 1974 and quickly focused on modern design with superior seating comfort. The Montis collection stands out with unique color combinations and with their use of various leathers. The company set itself apart from its competitors and achieves high comfort by often applying upholstery to a chair, which was often disregarded in a movement that usually stripped furniture to its essentials. Their techniques came to be regarded as distinctly Dutch.
