Piano confirms what we already know. The best way to seat a lot of people at a table without taking up too much room is to use a dining bench! We believe that luxurious design can solve the problem of limited space in the modern interior! For this reason, Montis has introduced a range of dining benches that are well suited to today's interiors in terms of both comfort and appearance! An old idea with a contemporary twist. The Piano bench would also be at home as a freestanding piece in a public or private setting.

Gijs Papavoine studied at the institute of technology and Eindhoven Academy for Industrial Design in the product Design department. Gijs was employed as a Product Manager at Montis until 1990. In this capacity, he was jointly responsible for Montis' design philosophy. In 1990, Gijs was promoted to dedicated designer of Montis.

The Piano bench features a powder-coated silver/grey steel base, is offered in four sizes and upholstered in your choice of a variety of fabric or leather options.

Gijs Papavoine

Born in 1949, Gijs graduated from both the Institute of Technology and the Industrial Design Academy in Eindhoven, after also studying at the Higher Technical Schoo. In 1976 he started his career with Montis in the Product Development department and would forever be associated with the company. He quickly ascended to the position of Product Manager and shared responsibility for Montis' design philosophy, leaving a clear mark on the company. He was promoted to head of the Montis design team in 1990 and designed models for InterArt; such as Escargot, Sumo and Kibuki.
Papavoine’s style is characterized by a clear, graceful and refined interplay of lines, with a strong sense of simplicity. His Basso Lounge Chair, part of a complete seating set for Vandersluis, was awarded the Red Dot Award in 2011.
Montis was established in 1974 and quickly focused on modern design with superior seating comfort. The Montis collection stands out with unique color combinations and with their use of various leathers. The company set itself apart from its competitors and achieves high comfort by often applying upholstery to a chair, which was often disregarded in a movement that usually stripped furniture to its essentials. Their techniques came to be regarded as distinctly Dutch.
