The frying pan is a shallow metal utensil of rounded form, with curved sides, and a handle that is usually equal in length to the diameter of the pan. These utensils are of ancient origin and were first discovered at the excavations in Pompeii.

The project "La Cintura di Orione" is dedicated to the "private gourmet", namely those enthusiasts of intelligent and creative cooking. The frying pan in iron, a material with heat-regulating properties that make it particularly suitable for cooking with fats. In continental European cooking this type of pan is used for frying, while in the cuisine of Mediterranean countries it's the first choice sautéing all types of meat, fish and vegetables. The egg & crepe pan has the same features as the frying pan, but has a sloping body and is always smaller in size.

Born in Munich in 1932, Richard Sapper studied philosophy, anatomy, graphics, engineering and economics. Ten times winner of the Compassi d'Oro, his prime interest is the design of technically complex objects, from ships to watches.

Richard Sapper

Richard Sapper, born in Munich, designs products featuring a combination of technical innovation, simplicity of form, and an element of wit and surprise. He has received numerous international design awards, including 10 prestigious Compasso d'Oro awards and the Raymond Loewy Foundation's Lucky Strike award. His products are part of the permanent collections of many museums around the world, with over 15 represented at New York's MoMA, as well as London's Victoria and Albert and Design Museums. Upon starting his own independent studio in 1959, Sapper designed the Tizio lamp for Artemide, one of the best selling lamps ever produced. In 1978 Alessi commissioned Sapper with the first product in a long series to come, the stove-top espresso maker 9090.
Alessi was founded in 1921 by Giovanni Alessi to produce crafted metal products for eating and drinking. In 1935, Carlo Alessi, son of Giovanni, was named chief designer. In 1945, he ascended to chief executive and designed the coffee service Bombé, an industrial piece manufactured in four sizes. That same year Carlo's younger brother, Ettore Alessi, joined the company as a technician. By the 1980s, Alberto Alessi took over the management of Alessi and launched the Alessi company into the design decade through collaborations with designers such as Philippe Starck and his playful three-legged Juicy Salif citrus squeezer.
