alessi sapper '9091' kettle

Design Richard Sapper, 1983
Stainless steel, polyamide handle, brass
Made in Italy by Alessi.

This was Alessi's first 'designer kettle', heralding a new season of kettle ideas for the design world. The true heart of this design is the brass whistle whose pipes sing two notes, 'mi' and 'si' when the steam blows through them, giving a particularly attractive melody. Mr. Sapper wanted to avoid giving the kettle's whistle the usual irksome sound of the other kettles on the market. Perhaps this purely musical requirement lead to what can be described as Alessi's first multi-sensorial design.

The Sapper kettle features 18/10 mirror polished stainless steel with melodic whistle in brass and handle in PA and a magnetic steel heat diffusing bottom.

Richard Sapper

Richard Sapper designed the Tizio lamp for Artemide, one of the best selling lamps ever produced. In 1978 Alessi commissioned Sapper with the first product in a long series to come, the stove-top espresso maker 9090.
Alessi was founded in 1921 to produce crafted metal accessories for the kitchen. Alberto Alessi launched Alessi into high design through collaborations with designers like Philippe Starck and his Juicy Salif citrus squeezer.
